Jakarta, 3 June 2026 – Waruna Group hosted its Officer Seminar themed “Operational Excellence: Turning Standards into Habits”, bringing together ship officers, operational management teams, and maritime professionals from across the industry. The event forms part of the company’s ongoing commitment to strengthening safety culture, regulatory compliance, and sustainable operational excellence throughout its fleet.

The seminar featured a series of expert speakers covering key aspects of modern shipping operations. The first session was delivered by Andi Rustan, S.SiT., M.M., M.Mar. E., Sub-Coordinator for Pollution Prevention and Safety Management of Cargo and Container Ships at the Directorate of Shipping and Seafarers, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia. His presentation focused on MARPOL regulations, Ballast Water Management, and Anti-Fouling Systems, emphasizing the importance of environmental compliance and marine ecosystem protection.
Industry insights were shared by Syafiq, Head of Vetting at PT Pertamina International Shipping, who discussed developments within the national energy sector and sustainability initiatives supporting Indonesia’s long-term energy resilience.
Recognizing the critical role of human factors in operational safety, psychologist Oktina Burlianti, M.Si., addressed psychological risks commonly encountered in maritime operations, including fatigue, seasonal compliance patterns, and shortcut culture. Her session highlighted the importance of fostering consistent behaviors and decision-making processes to reduce operational risks.

Technology innovation was presented by Suyitno, Field Service Team Manager at Alfa Laval, who introduced ballast water treatment technologies compliant with both International Maritime Organization (IMO) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) requirements, supporting safer and more environmentally responsible vessel operations.
Meanwhile, Aditya Trisandhya Pramana, Vice President Statutory of Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI), shared insights on Port State Control (PSC) inspections involving Indonesian-flagged vessels throughout 2025. Participants gained valuable understanding of common findings and practical strategies to improve compliance and fleet performance.
The seminar concluded with a tanker performance session delivered by Rajasegar Raju, GM QHSEV / DGM Technical Operations of Waruna Group. He highlighted the company’s achievement of reducing fleet failure days by 64% in 2025 compared to 2022. According to him, this improvement was not primarily driven by new equipment investments, but by the consistent execution of operational standards and daily best practices.

Rajasegar also shared practical approaches to building sustainable operational habits onboard, including the principles of “Clean Deck = Confident Crew”, “Clean Engine Room = Professional Team”, “Report Defects Early”, and “Inspection-Ready Every Day”.
